Learning the Game of Tennis

Tennis is a racket game which is played between two competing teams of two individuals each, with each team using a special tennis racket which is then strung with lead tape with a number of pointy ends attached. Each player uses a special tennis racket which is specially strung with lead tape with a number of pointy ends attached, to hit a small hollow rubber ball called a tennis ball (also known as a serve) to the opposite opponent’s court and into their court. The object of the game is to become the first player to win a set of points by hitting your opponent’s ball into the net.

In a full spin, the ball travels at the speed of twelve miles an hour and a side spin travels at the speed of six miles an hour. Because of this the faster a tennis ball goes the less time it takes for it to make its way to the other player on the tennis court. This is why tennis players are instructed to be on the offense and try to hit the ball back before the opponent can strike theirs. They are also taught to be patient and take their turns, so that each player can build up momentum and force their opponent to make mistakes.

The object of the game in singles play is to be the first player to get all four people on their side of the tennis court who then take turns getting the ball back to their opponent who then attempts to hit it back into the other team’s court for points. Points are scored when a player hits the ball back to his or her opponent, from any position in the tennis court. In doubles play, the winning team must obtain all four people on their side of the tennis court with each person getting the ball back into their opponents court after each partner has had their turn in order to continue play.
